Georeferencing

This is a map of the UWF campus and a protected bald eagles nest. the rings around the nest portray a conservation easement of 330 and 660 feet. This weeks lab was to georeference raster images onto the map. We also made shapefiles for the gym and Campus Lane. I didn't experience any trouble while making the map but I had a hard time finding the metadata for the files in our project summary.

Geocoding Lab

Link to map: https://arcg.is/T4aOm

The purpose of this map was to show schools in Manatee County. We did this by downloading the school information from the Florida Department of Education website and getting the county information from the Census. We cleaned the data in Excel. When making this map, I had 89 rows instead of 88, which the lab stated I should have. After inspecting my data, I noticed there was an extra High School that must have recently been added. When adding points to the school that were not assigned a location outside of Manatee County, according to Google Maps. I had no trouble with this lab and enjoyed learning new Excel functions.

Vectors Lab

This weeks assignment was to learn how to use buffers and overlays. We made the map shown above by making buffers for roads and water. then we merged the buffers together using the union tool. We then had to figure out how to use these merged zones to create possible campsites for De Soto Nation Forest. This lab was hard for me, but once I figured it out, it felt very clear.

Lab 3

This is a map depicting three different projections of Florida. The table highlights the differences in area in square miles in different counties in the three different projections. This lab was to show us the importance of the projections we choose for our maps. This week we also used ArcGIS field maps to upload data of our choosing. I chose to upload points of fire hydrants around my house while my 6 month old and I took a walk. I really enjoyed this part of the lab. Mixing in the computer work with real world data that I collected was exciting and I'll be happy to do this again in the future.

Lab 2

This map represents the University of West Florida's Main campus on a map of Escambia County. This Map shows the cities Ferry Pass and Pensacola, as well as Major rivers and the interstate.

Making this map was to practice data clipping and reviewing metadata. We used UWF GIS Online Essential map-making elements to finish this map. This map was straightforward, and I believe I made a pleasant-looking map while also showing all of the data.
